What is Biodiversity?
In its most basic interpretation, bio = life and diversity = variety. Biodiversity is the variety of life!
Although this definition is all-encompassing, biodiversity is typically put into context at three main levels: genetic diversity, species diversity, and ecosystem diversity (1). Genetic diversity is the variation of genes within and between species, species diversity is variations within and between species populations, and ecosystem diversity is variations within and between ecosystems (2).
